| These were the ONLY brownie to me as a kid. I like them stiff and chewy! |

cocoa or unsweetened chocolate |
|
| 1/3 cup |
|
shortening |
|
| 1 cup |
|
sugar |
|
| 2 |

eggs |
|
| 3/4 cup |
|
sifted flour |
|
| 1/2 tsp |
|
baking powder |
|
| 1/2 tsp |
|
salt |
|
|

1/2 cup broken nuts (optional) |

| Melt shortening and cocoa. Beat in sugar and eggs. Sift together and stir in flour baking powder and salt. Mix in nuts if you want them. Spread in well greased 8" square pan 8x8. Bake until top pulls fro sides and has crusty crush. Cool for 30 minutes then slice into squares cut into 2 inch squares. |
