Bread and Butter Pickles
 
 
Mixture 1  
4 quarts    cucumbers sliced thin  
6   medium onions (white- cut into rings)  
2   green peppers chopped  
dash    garlic powder  
1/8 cup    salt  
Mixture 2  
5 cups    sugar  
3 cups    vinegar  
1- 1/2 tsp    tumeric  
1- 1/2 tsp    celery seed  
2 Tbs    mustard seed  
 
Mixture 1- Mix well add crushed ice to cover and let stand 3 hours in glass or enamel pan. Drain well - combine rest of ingredients and pour over 1st mixture. Heat to just boiling and seal in pint jars
 
Yield: 6 pints
