| I leave out the black pepper often found in 5 spice powder, since i like to add it seperately. |

ground clove or 36 whole cloves |

| 2 Tbs |

cassia* ground cinnamon or 12 inches of stick |

| 2 Tbs |
|
ground anise or 12 whole stars |
|
| 2 Tbs |
|
fagara* (Szechwan pepper) |
|
| 2 Tbs |
|
fennel seed |
|
| 2 Tbs |
|
ground ginger |

| |
| Grind all ingredients in a mortar and pestle until all is a powder. Store in a dry cool place in an air-tight container, or freeze. |
