Sweetened Ice Tea

1 quart    water
4   Lipton Family-size tea bags or 12 small bags (I prefer Luzianne if I want decaf)
2 cups    sugar
  lemon *optional

In a large pot bring the water to a boil. Remove pot from heat, add the tea bags, cover with a lid, and allow tea to steep in water for 4 minutes. Take a 1 gallon jug and pour the sugar into the jug add HOT tea water being careful not to drop teabags from pot, stir the sugar to dissolve completely. Add cold water to teabags pot to rinse more tea from them. Pour into the jug when you are certain sugar is melted (check bottom if you need to.) Put more water in pot and rinse teabags again. This time squeese out the teabags before adding water to jug. Add cold water to finish filling the gallon jar. May be put in fridge after this. To serve, pour over ice. May be garnished with a twist of lemon.

This is the tea I learned to make as a child. My daddy LOVED this.... I can still hear him jiggle his empty glass when he wanted more.
