Sassafras Tea

This is how I made the tea for our youth camping trip in highschool. I don't know who taught me this... it was just there.

  sassafras roots
  water
  sugar

Dig sassafras roots from one tree same height as self or just taller. Wash them clean, cut cross length into thick slices boil 1-cup water for each inch of quarter size root, boil till water darkens and smells wonderful, (will not be as dark as what your used to tea looking like) remove from heat, add sugar to taste and let sit to room temp, strain off the roots and debris before you drink the tea. To me this is best if drank warm.

Servings: 1

 Cooking Tips
Gather in fall when the leaves have fallen so the sap is in the roots.

I know that now they say that this is dangerous to drink and estasy is created from Sassafras root.... but I drank it as a kid... those of you who know me... may understand me more now *wink*. But this with a bit of vinegar and honey is the best of cold remedies... Granny claimed Sassafras root tea an a hot mustard pack, be used to cure a cold... .
